Visiting Us
The Garden
A Garden Sanctuary
To be surrounded by Nature's Beauty and to observe Her at Her work
calms the soul
refreshes the spirit
& soothes the mind.
Shining Horse is set in a walled garden & apple orchard,
providing a sanctuary for the animals in our care as well as for humans that might be passing by.
It is important to us that we give our animals as much freedom as possible and so most of the animals are free to roam throughout the garden and orchard. We invited you to make friends with all the animals and we have found that people gain great pleasure from being in the garden.
We ask that you treat the animals with loving kindness and allow them right of passage. Please teach your children to do the same. Our animals are friendly and well-socialised but please make sure that your children are protected from horns, teeth and claws. Children must be supervised in the garden at all times and encouraged to respect others right to a moment of quiet reflection.
The garden is situated in a delightful spot adjacent to the church in Newton St Loe, just 3.5 miles from Bath City Centre. It is believed that parts of it were once consecrated ground.
It has a quiet, gentle presence and is home to our family of animals including a horse, two Eriskay ponies, two goats, two pigs, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs and a rabbit.
Open days
The garden is not currently open to the public, due to the increased number of private clients. For those of you who have enjoyed visiting the garden and wish to do so again, please telephone us or join our mailing list as we will from time to time be holding Open Days. For those of you who have enjoyed visiting regularly, why not become a Friend of the Garden details of which will be available shortly on this website.
